Winter 2007 open-source business development internship @ NEW

Here's a cool internship for the right SI student: The NEW Service Network (NSN) provides nonprofits access to tools and services for abstracting out back-office or support functions. The first program area for NSN is a GNU/Linux thin-client network product, which allows nonprofits to reduce the cost/complexity of their IT infrastructures and enables new styles of work, such as remote access or collaboration. Subsequent program areas may address accounting and fundraising, etc. They need someone with experience in and/or willingness to learn open-source web-based CRM and billing systems. The project: to design some of the resources and work processes that can be used to spin up the NSN outside of the limited geographical area that can be served directly by NEW. Specific work plan and work arrangements for this project are negotiable, but the need is real and the potential impact of your work is great. Since NSN has local nonprofits as customers, it'd be a great opportunity to network locally, if that's of interest. Larry Cohn is the contact person at NEW for this project. I (Brian) have worked at NEW on a couple projects this year, including NSN. I'd be glad to discuss the people, the program, or the internship over a cup of coffee.
