Suggestion 2: We need to identify who is on the cutting edge in community informatics, and get them to come to SI as speakers

Suggestion 3: Students would like to see more courses that are currently listed as external cognates by cross-listed as SI courses, particularly Michael Gordan’s Social Enterprise Class

Potential Definition: Something we’re creating as we go…..

Projects:

Rachel Pultusker Presented Two Projects:

#1:

On Thursday mornings Rachel leaves Ann Arbor at 8:45 to a Detroit Public Elementary School and returns at noon.  Rachel is look for ideas for what to do with this captive audience, 5th graders, one half hour…one idea she has currently is to do a readers theater initiative, scripting versions of popular stories and working with the students to perform them.

#2

Rachel updated us on what’s going on with the Community Media Bus she introduced last term.  This project has been adopted by some additional stakeholders in Flint who are interested in turning it into a public television initiative touring students around Michigan on a quest to find cool reasons to stay in the state.  The students will blog as they go and students in the towns they visit may attempt to get them to come to their town through blogging as well.  Initial meeting in Lansing on October 24th, to get oriented to the bus .  Rachel is willing to carpool with folks who wish to attend the meeting.

One weekend projects:  Grand Rapids Community Media Group or One Cleveland

Students are interested in following up with organizations that presented at the CIC Seminar in Fall 2007.  There was strong interest in both of the Grand Rapids Community Media Group and One Cleveland.  It appears that there is more initial interest in One Cleveland.

Action Steps:

Survey students to gauge interest in a trip

Discuss resources with Dan Atkins

Contact Stakeholders in the organizations that would be willing to work with us.

Networking Events:

Interest in Hosting Additional Networking Events:  For example, Kathleen is looking for ways to network her internship
