Two CI-related projects that might be of interest...

The Cool Bus: The New Leaders Arts Council, an advisory group to the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, is working on a "cool bus" project and we're in the process of finalizing a design idea. The project will involve some combination of a school bus, Michigan's young people, public artwork, and an interactive website where people on the bus communicate with people from around the state. Want to learn more? Come to our meeting in Lansing on Friday, October 24 at 3pm. I will be leaving straight from the CIC seminar that day and will be returning to Ann Arbor after the meeting (likely back around 7pm).

The Glazer Elementary School Library: On Thursday mornings (starting 9/25), I will be driving myself (and other dedicated SI volunteers) to Glazer Elementary School to run the Glazer school library program. Working with some other community volunteers, we will spend approximately two hours with two-three classes (one first grade, one second grade, and one upper grade with the classes in a weekly rotation). The goals of this library enrichment program are not only to provide students with information literacy skills that they will be able to apply to other academic arenas, but also to foster a love of reading and literature. This program promises to be both challenging and rewarding, as we attempt to address a community's information needs from within a very particular context (and from a very unique perspective) while having a wonderful time doing literacy activities with young children.

Please contact me for more information or to get involved in either one (or both) of these projects.
