A summer internship - Creative Commons

Creative commonsThis summer I'm working in San Francisco with Creative Commons, a non-profit organization working to provide alternatives to restrictive copyright and licensing agreements. Creative Commons is developing LiveContent, a project to connect and expand Creative Commons and open source communities. An output of LiveContent will be a LiveCD for libraries, which will package free and open source software with CC-licensed content. The aim of LiveContent v2.0 is to provide libraries an easy-to-use, viable alternative to proprietary software and demonstrate the benefits and future possibilities of the free open source software (FOSS) and Creative Commons movements. v2.0 will explore how library users can interact with open content with free and open software. The LiveCD will include Fedora 7, a combination of free and open source productivity and creativity applications (such as OpenOffice, Inkscape, and The Gimp), open document templates, and a variety of Creative Commons-licensed multimedia and educational content. Worldlabel.com is providing the support for the development of this project and the distribution of the CD. Watch for further LiveContent updates on the wiki.
