Dr. Tim Rogers, director of Knowledge Exchange for the Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange (CATIE) based in Toronto, Ontario will be speaking at the Community Information Corps fall 2009 seminar series (SI-575) on Friday, October 23 from 11:30-1 pm in 311 West Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

In 2007, an estimated 33.2 million people worldwide were living with HIV and each day more than 6,800 people become infected. Since HIV first appeared more than 25 years ago, information has played a crucial role in the response to the epidemic. During this time AIDS activism has helped to revolutionize health information production and exchange for the benefit of communities living with and vulnerable to HIV.

The Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange (CATIE) is a community-based organization whose mission is to champion and support innovation and excellence in information exchange for the prevention of HIV transmission, and the care, treatment and support of people with HIV. Using examples from CATIE and other similar organizations, this presentation will explore the ways in which information-based programming can mobilize communities to respond to a health crisis.
