Information, Globalization, and Development course for Winter 2010

I spoke with Steve Jackson after his talk at the CIC seminar on Friday and asked him about plans to offer an I4D or Information for (International) Development class. His response:

"My HOPE - though this schedule would need to be cleared with [Associate Dean for Academic Affairs], and the course itself would need to be cleared through the Curriculum Committee - is to bring on a course titled something like 'Information, Globalization, and Development' starting in Winter 10 (and likely offered on an every other year basis, alternating with my Digital Governance sequence). That would be centrally about information and development in a project-level CIC-like way, but would also cross over with policy, including around issues like appropriate information policy frameworks in developing country settings, and some cross-cutting issues of transnational information governance.

You're welcome to share this with other students, though the caveats around scheduling, SI approval, etc. should also be shared.  It's useful for me to hear from you and other students, as knowing there's a likely constituency for this kind of course is actually an important consideration in deciding whether to develop it."

I know it's 3 semesters away, but sign me up now! :)

The CI faculty are discussing it now. It still needs some approval from the administration but for those of you interested in taking it, please let your interest be known! The course is more likely to be offered if they know there's a demand for it. I think this would be a great course for the CI specialization.
